Welcome to the Historic
Ossining CampWoods Grounds
What used to be a populated Methodist campgrounds, is now home to 45 families
who have converted these summer cottages into full time homes. The Campgrounds
was established back in 1831 when families pitched tents across the property and
attended Bible studies, revival sessions, and Sunday services. The main church, swedish tabernacle, hotel and dining hall still stand on this site.
No branch of the Methodist Church has been officially involved in the Camp Woods
meetings since 1947, but Camp Woods Grounds is said to be the oldest Methodist
camp meeting in the United States. The Camp Woods Meeting Association still
tends to the main church where summer services are open to the public.
Today's Camp Woods residents enjoy the diversity and uniqueness of this
community. Homeowners work together to better the community at group clean-up
and gardening days, barbeques, and holiday celebrations.
